Terms of use
Last updated 25 August 2026
PaintRoom is a collaborative game where players paint together through a succession of rooms. Everything painted in a room is shared live with its players and may later appear in an archive or timelapse.
Who can play
You must be at least 13 to use PaintRoom. If you are under 18, only make a purchase with permission from a parent or guardian.
Playing without an account
PaintRoom asks for nothing but a name. In place of an account, your browser holds a random identifier that the room uses to recognise you. Your pixel reserve, your painter name, your Cubvatar and anything you have paid for hang on that identifier and on nothing else.
If you clear your browser data, play in a private window, or move to another browser or device, the identifier may be lost along with everything attached to it, including your purchases. We cannot automatically recognise you again. Keep the receipt Stripe emails you: send it to hello@kevin-tale.com and we can usually restore your access.
Pixels
Painting a wall costs pixels. You earn them steadily while the room is open, up to a ceiling, and the server — never your browser — decides how many you hold. Pixels are not money: they cannot be bought, sold, given away or cashed out, they are worth nothing outside the room, and both the rate and the ceiling can change. Canvases — the free-paint surfaces in a room — cost no pixels, but they are patron ground: painting them requires a purchase.
Purchases and withdrawal
Some things in PaintRoom are paid: access to canvases, and painting your own Cubvatar. The price, including any tax owed where you live, is shown at checkout before you confirm anything. Purchases and refunds sets out the whole of it — what is sold, how payment works, and when we refund.
As a consumer in the European Union you normally have fourteen days to withdraw from an online purchase. What we sell is digital and delivered at once. At checkout, you expressly ask us to grant access immediately and acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal once access is granted.
What you may not paint
- anything unlawful under French law;
- sexual content involving minors, in any form or style — this is reported, not merely banned;
- threats, harassment, or incitement to hatred or violence against a person or a group;
- someone else's private information: names, addresses, telephone numbers, faces;
- work you hold no right to reproduce.
Painting over what someone else made is not on that list. The room is collective and impermanent on purpose; being painted over is part of playing, not a wrong done to you.
Moderation
We may remove paint, reset a name or a Cubvatar, and refuse a player entry, at our discretion and without warning, when the rules above are broken. A ban applies to the identifier held by that browser. To report something, write to hello@kevin-tale.com with roughly when you saw it and where in the room it is — the history can tell us who painted a given pixel.
What you paint, and who may use it
You keep whatever rights you hold in what you paint. By painting in a shared room you allow us to store it, show it to other players, keep it in that room’s archive, include it in timelapses and screenshots, and use those images to present PaintRoom publicly. That permission costs nothing, applies worldwide, and lasts as long as we run the game or keep the archive.
Your strokes sit inside a work made by everyone in the room, so a single one usually cannot be lifted back out of it. What we can do, if you ask, is detach your name: the strokes stay, your name stops being attached to them.
Nothing here is permanent
Rounds end. When one does the room is cleared for the next, and what was painted survives only as an archive we choose to publish. Archives may be altered or taken down. We make no promise that anything you paint will exist tomorrow, and the game is offered as it is, with no undertaking that it is available or free of faults.
Our liability
Nothing here removes the rights you hold as a consumer under French law, nor our liability for personal injury, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that we are not liable for indirect loss, for time spent, for paint lost, or for the consequences of the service being interrupted.
Changes
These terms can change. The date above says when they last did, and a change that materially affects you will be announced in the room. Playing on after a change means you accept it.
Law and disputes
French law governs these terms. If you are a consumer living in the European Union you may also rely on the mandatory protections of your own country and go before its courts. Before starting formal proceedings, you can contact us at hello@kevin-tale.com so we can try to resolve the issue.
